GOLDEN PEOPLE

For a long time now my grandpa, been suffering from a very serious illness Acute Mieoloblastic Leukemia (AML), one of the hardest forms of Leukemia. Upon his examination in March in Rebro Hospital, it was indicated that a treatement with a medication known as DACOGEN (Decitabin for injection) which MGI Pharma, USA produces.
My grandpa was waiting, without the medication for more than 7 months now - on d e a t h.

My parents tried to get the necessary medication in Croatia, but they were told there is no medication. They wrote and asked for help from E.O.R.T.C. (European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer) – so they might provide a donation of the medication. They also wrote to the Principle of Rebro Hospital, to Minister of Health, but the only answers they recieved were: «There is no medication, and this medication is not registered in Croatia or Europe.

Meanwhile, my grandpa was slowly dying, everyday. The Blasters in his blood were growing. He had only 14 trobocites in his body. During that same time, in the same hospital, a young journalist named Ana Rukavina, 29 years old, died of Leukemia. This was a terrible shock for all other patients suffering from Leukemia who were hospitalized, as well, in Rebro Hospital in Zagreb.
Death was walking the corridors of the hospital.

I realized that I would have to get the medication, some way, by my self – if I wanted to save my grandpa's life.

My human heart knocked 14 days ago on the doors of the manufacturer MGI Pharma, USA. My most sincere thanks go to the personal attention and great humanity of the esteemed Dr. Gerard Kennealey, Senior Vice President, Clinical Development MGI PHARMA, USA – who spoke with me, MGI manufacturing had approved a donation of the medication. I have received the most wonderful and most beautiful Christmas gift which can be given – medication to save the life of my grandpa !

This factory produces medication DACOGEN/DECITABINE which was tested and registered in USA as a medication for treatement of the leukemia. This medication can save many human lives in our Homeland. This medication belongs to group of so called smart medications.

In order for medication to arrive to Croatia as soon as possible, I have asked Governmnet of the Republic of Croatia for help. Immediately, few hours afterwards, our Ministry of External Affairs responded and offered immediatelly every needed help to receivement and transport of the medication throught the Consulate in Los Angeles towards Zagreb and Hospital. People in the Consulate were happy to hear that I was sucesfull to get the medication and happy to hear that they can help in this beautifull humanitary Christmas Bridge – bride that carries medication to save life from America into our homeland.

The bridge of help, good will and love – as I call it, is the path that can bring life for all other ill girls, boys, our people, our grandpas and grandmas in Croatia, to all those who are sick and die everyday from Leukemia in our hospitals in the homeland – wihtout medication.
I just made the first step on that bridge – and I want to help everybody from homeland – everybody who are asking and crying out for help – and on their lips are the same words: I WANT TO LIVE – HELP.

Therefore I am asking You – contact me, HELP ME – in the joint efforts to help the sick in our homeland - to get and deliver for life necessary medications!
